There are three popular home improvement trends in Kentucky right now. It includes refinishing floors, paint on cabinets, cabinet refinishing and door replacements. The trend keeps 21-year-old Josh Stump on his toes.

“I’m doing something different [home improvement project]almost every day,” Stump said.

Stump is the lead tech for N-Hance and started right out of high school. The Lexington based home improvement company does 3-4 home improvement jobs per week. Originally from Georgetown, Stump has worked in Lexington for N-Hance for the last four years and says he’s more busy than ever improving closets.

“All the slides and boxes are removed, then pretty much everything you see in the kitchen is covered in paper and plastic. The only thing that will show when we’re done sticking it is the wood frame,” Stump said.

He relies on his team to help him lay paper and plastic to protect homeowners’ appliances and floors before the paint is applied. Stump also relies on homeowners like Paul Cantrell to choose the color that works best for their cabinets.

“We’re happy in the area and don’t want to move, and this is just a way to remodel or refresh your kitchen at no cost,” Cantrell said.

According to Stump, it only takes 4 days for a project like painting cabinets. According to Zillow, 6.2 million homes will be sold this year. That means homeowners like Cantrell can save thousands.

Koger is happy to advise customers like Cantrell on the best home improvement option that saves money. Koger says cabinet replacements can cost as much as $15,000, but a simple paint job with them costs about $3,000, a $12,000 difference.

“Giving the gift of a fresh new kitchen, whether freshly painted or with fresh new cabinetry, doesn’t take away any value from your home. So when a buyer comes in and looks at your house and they look at your closets and they say, “Wow!” Guess what? That $15,000 isn’t coming from the top,” Koger said.

Koger says remodeling rather than replacing is the next best thing for homeowners, especially given the current demands of the housing market. N-Hance also operates in Louisville and Northern Kentucky to do home improvement jobs.
